With a baking steel, you can create professional baking results in your own oven.
The baking steel lasts a lifetime, but for consistent results, it is important that you build up a good seasoning from the start and maintain it regularly.
Before You Begin
The baking steel is pre-seasoned with vegetable oil, so it is ready to use immediately. However, for better rust protection and nonstick properties, we recommend that you season your baking steel the first 2-3 times you use it.
In this post, we will guide you through the process step-by-step.
The First Time You Bake
One hour before your very first baking session, coat your baking steel with a thin layer of vegetable oil - we recommend grapeseed oil. Before applying the oil, it is important that the baking steel is completely dry and free from dirt.
- Apply the oil and wipe with a dry, lint-free cloth to distribute the oil evenly in a thin layer.
- Place the baking steel in the oven at 240 degrees Celsius for one hour to burn in the oil.
- After an hour in the oven, you can bake on it immediately.
Do I Need to Oil the Baking Steel Every Time I Use It?
We recommend repeating this process the first 2-3 times the baking steel is used, but after that, it is not necessary to oil the baking steel before use.
To maintain your seasoning, you should repeat the process 1-2 times a year.
Did you wash your baking steel with water and soap, or have you just removed rust from the surface? Then it is also time to give your baking steel a new seasoning.
